Early Day Motion, or EDM, is the term used to describe notices of motions given by Members that are not generally expected to be debated. Effectively, the tabling of an EDM is a device to draw attention to an issue, and to elicit support for it by the means of inviting other Members to add their signatures to the motion. EDMs can often attract a great deal of publicity, and many people regard them as a gauge of opinion. While the majority of EDMs are never considered for debate, the group of EDMs known as 'prayers' may be debated. Prayers are motions to annul or revoke Statutory Instruments, and include the form of words 'that an Humble Address be presented to Her Majesty, praying that the [title of legislation], a copy of which was laid before this House on [date], be annulled. Its one of of many ways to get noticed. There has been numerous mast EDMs over the years. Have a look at what we have and then get your MP to sign the ones you support. If they haven't signed it find out why. in addition you can always ask your MP to table one if there arn't any there!!!! We think you will agree that the number of EDMs relating to our issues as well as the total number of the signatories for each EDM (the single biggest issue in this country at the moment) is ridiculous when we consider that there are currently over 800 Open EDMs
